Abstract
The overall purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between creativity and subjective well-being among Korean elderly people. First, we investigated whether there existed unobserved yet distinct subgroups within the subjects in terms of the levels of three dimensions of creativity (i.e. motivation-attitude-trait). Second, we examined whether there were significant differences in the levels of subjective well-being based on the subgroups. Lastly, we examined the relative predictability of factors of subjective well-being (emotional, relational, and efficacious well-being) on the classification of creativity subgroups. A total of 111 elder people in South Korea was collected and their responses on the creativity and subjective well-being questionnaires were analyzed. Latent Class Analysis (LCA) was employed to identify subgroups of creativity. Results showed that there were three groups (high, middle, low level of creativity) within the subjects. Subjects in middle and high creativity groups were found to perceive higher positive subjective well-being in all three dimensions than low creativity group. Efficacious and emotional well-being factors significantly predicted the classification of creativity group, while relational well-being did not. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
